"Swarthmoor SSFC 1 vs 2 Storeys FC (Cup 1/4 Final) 23/03/08.
Gammon, Christian
Nuno, Miller, Hobbs, Park(c), Eccles, Christian, Turner, McGonnall, Ainsworth, Stirzaker, Gammon. Subs: Brooks, P.Turner.
Understrength team, terrible weather and an awful drive to Swarthmoor ensured this game was anything but a classic. Two players made their 1st Team debuts, James Ainsworth promoted from the
reserves and new German signing Christian. Both players impressed on either wing. Chris Park skippered the side in Sanderson's absence and Gary McGonnall returned on leave from the Royal Marines.
Steve Miller started at right back while suffering from a heavy cold which under normal circumstances would have prevented him from playing. Storeys played much the better football throughout the 1st
half ensuring a 0-1 half time lead which could/should have been 3 if not for poor decisions by the man in black (again!!!!). The first goal came when Eccles clipped a long ball forward to Stirzaker
who turned and threaded the ball between the defence to Tom Gammon. Gammon took one touch before calmly slotting the ball underneath the goalkeeper into the bottom of the net. A blatent penalty was
turned down when Stirzaker was clattered into on the edge of the 6 yard box after turning his marker. Another poor decision soon followed when Gaz Turner saw his excellent finish from the edge of the
box ruled out for a dubious obstruction inside the area. The game was made safe in the 2nd half when Christian scored a debut goal with a text book volley through a crowd of players, a good goal
fitting of his first performance for the club. Swarthmoor pulled back a late consolation goal after a goalkeeping error. A very welcome and hard fought win ensuring another semi-final
outing leaving Spike Winn pleased with the character shown by his players and staff."
