"In the Premier Division the title now rests between Storeys now the favourites and Marsh United following the surprising 3-1 defeat of Carnforth Rangers. Carnforth Rangers travelled to play Swarthmoor Social Club with a much weakened team after withdrawals due to work commitments, Ben Price their keeper being called up to play for Lancaster City. The team that Carnforth Rangers turned out held their own in the first half. Shane Birkitt gave Swarthmoor an early lead but Carnforth Rangers showed their fighting qualities when they fought back to equalise with a penalty scored by Alec Gorton before half time. The second half saw Swarthmoor Social Club take the game to Carnforth and went into a 2-1 lead when the energetic and leading scorer Graham Wilcox scored an excellent goal. Swarthmoor were clearly on top and could have increased its lead on numerous occasions before Jamie Donald made the game safe."
